Trusting God When Everything Feels Out of Control

  • Trusting God When Everything Feels

Do you ever feel like the world is spinning out of control?

I do….just about every time I turn on the news.

And not only do I feel like the world is spinning out of control, sometimes I feel like circumstances, relationships and situations in my own life are doing the same. Can you relate?

When those feelings of overwhelm become too much, we must reel ourselves back in and remember who God is. We have to remember the attributes of His character.

And without a doubt the one character trait of God that can provide us with the most peace, reassurance and hope is His sovereignty.

God being sovereign means that God is in control. He controls every detail in my life, in your life, in our country, in our world and in our universe. To find proof of God’s sovereignty, we only need to turn our eyes toward scripture.

Here are a few examples from scripture that demonstrate God’s Sovereignty:

  1. God’s control over the animal kingdom (Genesis 2:19; Daniel 6:22; Jonah 1:17, 2:10)
  2. God’s control over nature (Job 38, specifically check out verses 12, 28-30 and 34-35)
  3. God’s control over kings and kingdoms (Proverbs 21:1)
  4. God’s control over man (Proverbs 16:9, Proverbs 19:21)
  5. God’s control over the universe (Isaiah 46:11, Colossians 1:17)

Friends, all of those items listed above are reasons for us to celebrate as followers of Christ. God being in control and God being sovereign means that no plan of His can be stopped or prevented. He will have His way.

And this, my friends, is a beautiful thing.

It’s beautiful because abiding in God’s sovereignty is a resting place for our security. When we know who is in control, we don’t have to worry. We don’t have to strive to be in control because God already is! There is safety and security in the sovereignty of God. And because there’s safety and security in His sovereignty this means we can trust him.

My hope and prayer for you today is that you would be able to lay your worry, fear and concern at the foot of the cross and instead take on God’s sovereignty as your promise and your hope. Trading in fear and worry for peace and hope is a much better place to live. Wouldn’t you agree?

And when you still encounter frustration or angst from turning on the news and feeling as though the world is spinning out of control, remember that God’s ways are higher than ours. In our human capacities, we can never fully understand how God is working in this broken world.

It’s imperative for us to remember this: if God were small enough to fully understand, He wouldn’t be big enough to trust.

Rest in His sovereignty, friends and your hope will be restored.
